Big Thunder Mountain Reopening Details and New Features
Walt Disney World guests can look forward to the return of the beloved Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on May 3, 2026. Currently undergoing the last steps of its refurbishment, this classic attraction is being refreshed, ensuring it remains a thrilling experience for years to come.
A key highlight of the refurbishment includes a new track and updated passenger trains. These improvements have been designed to maintain the classic storytelling and lively spirit that guests cherish, while adding new energy, enhanced movement, and detailed features. Safety teams have also completed an extensive review, resulting in a lowered height requirement of 38 inches, welcoming even the littlest riders aboard.
The reopening will introduce fresh magic, including stunning new scenes deep underground. As trains rumble into spectacular natural caverns, guests will be mesmerized by phosphorescent pools and shimmering stalagmites and stalactites glowing with iridescent light. However, these beautiful Rainbow Caverns hide a warning: the mountain itself might not be welcoming visitors so warmly.
Get ready to experience the wildest ride in the wilderness, renewed and packed with new surprises for all prospectors!
