Disney Cruise Line Updated it’s Deposit Policy, what does that mean for you?
In an unprecedented (but slightly over due) move yesterday, Disney Cruise Line updated their deposit policy. Previously, cruisers needed to have 20% of their total cruise fare on hand to book their Disney Cruise Line adventure. Now, as of June 18, 2025, DCL has made it the official policy that 10% of the cruise fare is the new standard. If this number seems familiar, its because Disney Cruise Line would frequently run promotions that allowed you to book a cruise for only 10% down.
What does this mean for the average cruiser? Often seen as the pinnacle of family cruising, taking on a Disney Cruise can be an intimidating financial prospect for many families. While you can book as far in advance as Fall 2026, giving yourself close to a year to pay the trip off in increments, having 20% of the total cruise fare can be hard.
Let’s say you have a family of four, you’re willing to sail during the school year and you’re willing to risk sailing during hurricane season to keep costs down. A 7-night cruise on the fabulous Disney Treasure in the fall of 2026 starts at $6,547 for an inside stateroom. With the old 20% down policy your deposit to hold this booking would have been approximately $1,200, now it’s under $600! This means you can hold your booking and make payments in a way that feels more comfortable to your family. If you have the $1,200 to put down, you can always still do that.
I love that this change makes Disney Cruise Line more accessible to more families. It also bring Disney Cruise Line closer to the deposit standards set by other lines within the cruising industry.
